Today, at Porta Macedonia in Skopje a lecture titled "Religion and Politics in the Balkans: A Brief Historical Review” was given by Professor Meic Pearse, an Oxford University expert and professor of history at Houghton College, New York.
The Commission for Relations with Religious Communities and Groups (CRRCG) and the Balkan Institute of Religion and Culture (BIRC) organized the event.
In his press release, Mr. Pierce said that he would give a brief overview of the relationship between religion and politics in the Balkans, adding that the whole story cannot be told in detail because it is too extensive and too complicated.
"What I want to offer is a way that will help us think about these realities, that will help us better understand them. And especially how to help ourselves get rid of those things that bring us into conflict all the time, that we can never get rid of, and this way of thinking will help us how not to do it", Mr. Mike Pierce emphasized.
Noting that the purpose of this lecture is to bring new experiences and ideas to the domestic public through well-known individuals from around the world, the Director of the Commission for Relations with Religious Communities and Groups, Mr. Darijan Sotirovski said that religion and politics have always been interweaved in the Balkans.
"I hope this will be also a significant contribution to the academic community here, because we are comparing our ideas and our scientific conclusions with those from outside. And we are talking about something that is very interesting and always relevant both in the Balkans, and in our country, and that is the crossing of religion and politics, because history has taught us that the religion and politics are always interweaved", said Sotirovski.
Director of the Balkan Institute of Religion and Culture, Mr. Kosta Milkov said that the Institute has been trying for the last 10 years to contribute to the well-being and greater understanding of all people living in our country.
"These last 10 years the Balkan Institute of Religion and Culture has been trying to contribute to the well-being, greater understanding and greater inclusiveness of all the people living in our country. It is very important to consider it because we want to continue in the future by having people of different religions, different backgrounds and different understandings, who will want to live together at the same time,” said Mr. Milkov.
